Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.
If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.
Make a note of the SMALLEST width.
** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.
Then reduce by figure based on number of gate leafs you require. Please note: Only flat top designs can have 3, 4 or 5 leafs. Any bow top or curved top design comes in a 4 leaf set up.
3 Leaf: Reduce by 60mm
4 Leaf: Reduce by 80mm
5 Leaf: Reduce by 100mm

All of our gates are expertly crafted by hand in the UK using time served construction techniques. Unlike others, we do not pin our gates together. We use a traditional framing method. Mortise and tenon joints, along with dowels, are a traditional woodworking technique that provide strong and durable connections between frame members. Combining these joints in a wooden frame enhances stability and longevity. When it comes to securing the cladding to the frame, we only use stainless steel screws. Standard screws will rust leading to the gate's structure to fail over time. Hardwood is a lot more of a stable timber compared to softwood but will expand and shrink during different stages throughout the year. This is completely normal. To protect this, we rebate the inner legs of the gate. This allows the cladding to expand and contract without causing any damage to the frame and without it being noticeable when looking at the gate.
Finish is in the detail. Routered detailing to the edges of the gate, creating a more polished and refined appearance. This decorative touch enhances the overall visual appeal of the gate, making it stand out as a well-crafted and finished piece.

To work out the size of the gates take the opening width you have between pillars/ posts and deduct the following to allow for hinges. This is assuming the gates are to be opening inwards. Please note: All flat top designs are available in 3, 4 or 5 leaf set-up. Bow top or curved top design is only available as a 4 leaf set-up.
3 x Leafs - minus 60mm from opening size
4 x Leafs - minus 80mm from opening size
5 x Leafs - minus 100mm from opening size
The above measurements allow 15mm clearance between the edge of gate and post/pillars, 20mm between 2 leafs attached with a strap hinge and 10mm for the clearance in the middle of the gates (where the two gates close in the middle).

Our flat top design range is available in 3, 4 or 5 leaf sections. Our curved or bow top designs are available in 4.
For longer spans, we would recommend adding a jockey wheel to stabalise the gate.
Much like a standard double gate. This option is preferred if vehicle access is more commonly used over pedestrian access.
Allowing easy access for pedestrians or when one side of your driveway has limited return space. Access either left or right side.
