    The Guildford Bi Fold Gate is a popular style of gate. Flat head and horns with vertical cladding. An original designed gate with traditional mortise and tenon joints.Being a bi fold in design makes it a great gate for those where the opening space is limited or driveway slopes up. The gates are able to fold back on themselves so only needs a quarter of the width of the gates in its open position.

    • SELECT GATE SIZE

      To work out the size of the gates take the opening width you have between pillars/ posts and deduct the following to allow for hinges. This is assuming the gates are to be opening inwards.

      3 x Leafs - minus 60mm from opening size
      4 x Leafs - minus 80mm from opening size
      5 x Leafs - minus 100mm from opening size

      The above measurements allow 15mm clearance between the edge of gate and post/pillars, 20mm between 2 leafs attached with a strap hinge and 10mm for the clearance in the middle of the gates (where the two gates close in the middle).

      Actual gate width for both sides added together. 

      *HEIGHT

      Taken to the highest point of the gate. We recommend leaving a gap of 25mm (1") clearance between the bottom edge of the gate and ground level.

      Available in either galvanised or galvanised and black finish. Heavy duty adjustable gate hinge set which includes hinges, drop bolts, brenton bolt, strap hinges, latch and fixings (for gate only). For gates over 10ft wide, we recommend our 36" adjustable set.

    Being a bi fold in design makes it a great gate for those where the opening space is limited or driveway slopes up. The gates are able to fold back on themselves so only needs a quarter of the width of the gates in its open position.

    Working out the required gate size:

    To work out the size of the gates take the opening width you have (between pillars/posts) and deduct the following to allow for hinges. This is assuming the gates are to be opening inwards.

    3 x leafs minus 50mm from opening size
    4 x leafs minus 60mm from opening size
    5 x leafs minus 70mm from opening size

    Fitting the hinges on these gates are straight forward. We recommend either the 24″ or 36″ adjustable hinge set for the outer leaf gates. This hinge is able to hold a great deal of weight and then use strap hinges for the other leafs. A jockey wheel is advisable if the gates are very large or to make the opening of the gates easier.

    All gates online can be purchased to the nearest inch, if you do require a more precise size, please contact us. (Unlike others – there is NO additional cost for bespoke, we simply base price on the next size!)

    Specification

    Materials used in the construction of our wooden gates is a key part for their durability and outstanding natural beauty. Our softwood gates are produced using the finest, slow grown redwood pine from sustainable forests. Slow grown timber provides greater density levels (close to hardwood). Although more expensive it does produce a longer lasting product.

    Rear Bracing: Most gates will be produced with a diagonal brace system. This is sometimes changed to an “A” brace design if needed due to size.

    We are UK’s largest bespoke gate manufacturer. All of our gates are expertly crafted by hand in the UK (not imported from abroad) using traditional, time served construction techniques. Great care and pride is taken to each and every one of our gates to ensure our customers gate is something they can be proud of.

    What makes us different?

    Compared to our competitors…a lot! Within manufacturing process. Deeper frames and thicker cladding to aid longevity of the gate. Traditional mortise, tenon and dowel jointed frames combined with the use of high grade, PVA adhesive to ensure frames are locked and secured in place. Hidden stainless steel screws to hold the cladding boards in position (not nailed in), and being hidden, increases kerb appeal. To help prevent the gate from moving and twisting, the frames are rebated to let the cladding expand and contract without effecting the gate structure. Finer details are applied such as smooth, routered edges and “V” groove joints to enhance the overall look of the gate. All of our gates can be purchased online to the nearest inch or call our team for an exact width measurement.

    The process

    So you’ve picked your gate, selected your sizes and ordered it online (or over the phone)…what happens next? Something we are quite proud of (and our customers love!). Once a customer has ordered and paid for their gate they go into our notification system. Customers are notified on every step during the gate production process via email and/ or text message. This includes when it’s in being cut, put together, QC (quality control), finish and delivery. Each of our production departments have scanners. Once they scan a product, the customer is notified of the update immediately.

    Delivery

    If you’ve ordered a smaller gate, a one man delivery service is used. For larger gates, a two man service is used. In any case, the customer does not need to help during delivery as we have it covered. You’ll be given a delivery date and time slot closer to the time. Feel free to call us and arrange alternative dates if needed.

    The gate will arrive extremely well wrapped. ALL packaging used is fully recyclable so please dispose of this correctly.

    All products are made on order. As such, delivery times can go up and down depending on order volume. We delivery across the whole of the UK (mainland only – please call if Isle of Wight etc).

    Wooden Gates (inc Garage Doors): Monday 7th October to Friday 11th October. (Additional 5 - 10 working days if paint/ stain is added.)

    Composite Gates: Monday 21st October to Friday 25th October.

    Metal and Metal Infill Gates: Monday 21st October to Friday 25th October.

    Metal Railings and Ballustrades: Monday 21st October to Friday 25th October.

    Fence Panels: 7 to 14 days
