Measuring Guide for Bi-fold gates

Width: Total width of gate all leafs together. 

Height: Taken from lowest to highest point of the gate including the horns. We recommend a ground clearance from floor to bottom of gate of 50mm (2″) .

  • SELECT GATE SIZE

    To work out the size of the gates take the opening width you have between pillars/ posts and deduct the following to allow for hinges. This is assuming the gates are to be opening inwards.

    4 x Leafs - minus 80mm from opening size

    The above measurements allow 15mm clearance between the edge of gate and post/pillars, 20mm between 2 leafs attached with a strap hinge and 10mm for the clearance in the middle of the gates (where the two gates close in the middle).

    *WIDTH

    Total width of all gates added together.

    *HEIGHT

    Taken to the highest point of the gate. We recommend leaving a gap of 25mm (1") clearance between the bottom edge of the gate and ground level. 

    CENTRE OPENING OR PEDESTRIAN OPENING

    Due to design, this gate is only available as a 4 leaf set-up. For 3 or 5 leaf set-up, select a Flat Top design.

    HORN DESIGN

    Change the design on the side and centre gate horns.

    Available in either galvanised or galvanised and black finish. Heavy duty adjustable gate hinge set which includes hinges, drop bolts, brenton bolt, strap hinges, latch and fixings (for gate only). For gates over 10ft wide, we recommend our 36" adjustable set.

    All hinge sets come with a 5 yr guarantee.

How to Measure

Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.

number one with circle   If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.

Make a note of the SMALLEST width.

** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.
