METAL FRAMED BI-FOLD GATES
The Beauty of Iroko with Metal
Combining a deep metal frame with stunning Iroko timber to produce a long lasting and aesthetically pleasing bi-fold gate.
Iroko hardwood timber comes from the Milicia excelsa tree and is commonly known for it’s warm and attractive appearance. Featuring a golden to dark brown color with interlocked grain patterns. As it ages, it tends to darken, developing a rich patina that adds to its aesthetic appeal.
With natural weather-resistant properties, which make it ideal for outdoor use. It can withstand exposure to different weather conditions, including rain, sun, and humidity, without significant deterioration. This makes it a preferred material for outdoor gates.
Overall, Iroko hardwood timber’s beauty and benefits make it a popular choice for a variety of applications where strength, durability, and an appealing aesthetic are essential considerations.
Iroko is a strong and dense hardwood, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications. Its strength is comparable to teak, making it a reliable choice for construction and woodworking projects that require robust materials.

INFORMATION
How to Measure
Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.
If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.

Make a note of the SMALLEST width.
** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.
Please note: If purchasing metal posts with your gate, hinge pins will be welded to the post. If not, we supply hinge pin plates for you to fix to existing posts/ pillars.
Next, decide how the gate will hang and reduce width accordingly. The is by far the most popular option.
Option 1: Gate hanging on the rear of posts/ pillars. Main advantage of this set up is the reduced gap that is visible between the gate edge and post.

For a 3 leaf gate reduce 60mm (2 1/4″) from your lowest measurement.
For a 4 leaf gate reduce 70mm (approx. 2 4/5″) from your lowest measurement.
For a 5 leaf gate reduce 80mm (approx. 3 1/4″) from your lowest measurement.
Please note: Figure 1 shows the centre leaf opening to the left. This could also open to the right by fitting the hinge to the right leaf.
Option 2: Gates could open towards driveway. Hinge plates mounted to inner face of post/ pillar. Front edge of gate sits flush with the front edge of post/ pillar.

To calculate gate width:
For a 3 leaf gate reduce 160mm (6 2/5″) from your lowest measurement.
For a 4 leaf gate reduce 170mm (approx. 6 3/4″) from your lowest measurement.
For a 5 leaf gate reduce 180mm (approx. 7 1/4″) from your lowest measurement.
