AS SEEN ON TV

As a company, Gates and Fences UK really do believe in giving back where we can. Over the years we have been involved in multiple good causes –  from larger TV features to smaller charities and school fund raising events to memorial gardens. As we are a nationwide based company, our donations have been given throughout the whole of the UK. If you have a good cause that needs support, contact us to apply for a donation. Here are a few that we are most proud of being involved in.

BBC ONE Children in Need – DIY SOS The Big Build

In September 2013, we were contacted from the BBC and asked if we would like to donate custom made side gates and fence panels to ‘The Little Miracles’ project, part of BBC’s ‘Children in Need’ featured in the BBC One special programme ‘DIY SOS: The Big Build with Children in Need’. The cause, a life changing transformation to the centre for disabled children in Peterborough called ‘The Spinney’.

To match the exterior of the building, we were asked to manufacture the gates and fence panels from Thermowood to the architects design and dimensions. This needed to be completed to a strict deadline and delivered on site. To help the build, we were also asked to install the goods in Peterborough – a fair drive from Devon! So, with one of our van’s and three staff members (one being the Production Director!) we turned up on site the morning before the ‘big reveal’. This wasn’t through choice, in an ideal world we would have been there before hand but as it was only a 10 day build this was the day we were told to turn up!

With over 160 other tradesmen on site and a traffic light system in place due to all the vans being parked to say space was an issue would be an understatement. The gates and fence panels were installed (with labour help from the Army and an architect). During which, we were also asked to manufacture and install two further side gates. Thankfully, we were finished and off site at 8:45 pm…others didn’t finish till 2:30am!!

This is being aired on TV in November 2013 – look out for any gate or fence panel as these will be the ones we supplied and fitted and also three chaps dressed in black with the ‘Gates and Fences UK’ logo!

Overall, a great experience and we, as a company feel honoured that we were chosen to undertake this task. From office staff communicating backwards and forwards to the BBC, joiners in the factory manufacturing the gates and fence panels to spec and the three who turned up to fit, a good job done – and obviously done with no charge. A great way to donate for such a good cause and a highlight for 2013 for Gates and Fences UK.

ITV 1 Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh

Late September 2016 we were contacted by ITV 1 and asked whether we would consider manufacturing and donating a metal framed side/ pedestrian gate in the York design. The cause was a complete garden makeover for a WW2 veteran and POW who was 93 years old. Due to health reasons, he requires the use of a mobility scooter. Our donated gate would provide a side access for his scooter to enable him to get to his garden. The gate, finished in Iroko hardwood with a metal frame would also be fully automated allowing easy access through with a push of a button. The end result was truly wonderful. The garden looked beautiful and the chap involved was over the moon. We hope our gate has helped him to enjoy his garden more.

Show aired on ITV1 Wednesday 26th July 2017 – more details, see here.

Rowcroft Hospice – Metal Gates and Fencing

Another wonderful charity. Rowcroft hospice provides specialist care, support and comfort to over 2000 patients per year. As an independent charity, they rely solely on donations to enable the charity to run. Known mainly for there comfort provided to those with only weeks left to live. Patients are taken in and given care in a beautiful surroundings rather than a hospital.
In 2016, they approached us to construct a large metal gate with matching railings to protect one of their shops. The shop is used for people to drop off clothes etc to which is then sorted, cleaned and resold – all ran by volunteers. When we heard who it was for and found out what they were about, we were happy to help. Proudly, we donated a stunning set of gates and fencing which definitely helps protect the area.

Operation Braveheart – Memorial Gardens

2017 we were contacted by “Operation Braveheart”. A small group of people who had been given some land by their local council to develop into a memorial garden for all those lost at war. It was being run by someone who had recently lost their grandson. The aim was clear, to provide an attractive metal garden entrance gate large enough for wheel chair access. After browsing our gate designs, they came up with one that would suit. To enhance the gate and really make it look the part, they asked whether we could produce a feature image and incorporate it into the gate. We think it makes a fitting finish to the garden.
