Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to line the planter with plastic?
Yes: We highly recommend using a liner with your Iroko planter. While Iroko is an exceptionally durable hardwood, a liner provides an essential layer of protection against the build up of internal moisture and nutrients – helping to preserve the timber, regulate moisture, and maintain the planter’s pristine condition over time.
For the best results, we offer premium liners to complement our planters, ensuring both performance and durability.
Is the timber treated for outdoor use?
Yes: Each of our Iroko planters is carefully hand-finished with a clear oil, enhancing the timber’s natural beauty and providing long-lasting protection for outdoor use.
To preserve its rich colour and ensure long-lasting performance, we also recommend annual maintenance with clear oil. This will nourish the premium hardwood, protect against the elements, and keep your planter looking its best for years to come.
How long does a planter box last?
With proper care, such as using a high quality liner and annual treatment with clear oils, your premium hardwood planter will remain beautiful and structurally sound 20 years or more, gracefully developing a sophisticated patina over time.
Can I get a custom size?
No. But our premium hardwood planters are available in a variety of thoughtfully designed sizes to suit a variety of spaces and styles. We offer two sizes of our standing planters and two sizes of wall planters, each crafted to showcase the timber’s natural beauty whilst ensuring the planters’ elegance and practicality.
What is the best way to maintain my planter?
To keep your Iroko planter looking and performing at its best, we recommend the following care:
- Use a liner – protects the timber and helps retain soil moisture.
- Annual oiling – apply clear oil once a year to nourish the wood, preserve its natural colour, and protect against the elements.
- Clean gently – remove debris and wipe down with a soft cloth to maintain its refined appearance.
With these simple steps, your planter will continue to enhance your space for many years, gracefully aging while maintaining its luxurious finish.
