Adding Automation Now or in the Future?

Extra support for the gate is needed if planning on automating your gates. This is due to the force of the automation to the gate. Standard rails (over time) will fail. Add either a solid middle rail if attaching automation arms to middle of the gate (also know as above ground automation), or bottom middle rail if using underground automation.

  • Add your house name or house number and road name to your gate. Engraved into the top section of the gate. We use both sides of the gate to do this. For example, if your house was called "Lavender Cottage", Lavender would be on the left side and Cottage on the right side.

DRIVEWAY GATES

How to Measure

Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.

number one with circle   If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.

How-to-measure-driveway-gate-width-1

Make a note of the SMALLEST width.

** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.

number two in green circleNext, decide how the gate will hang and reduce width accordingly. The is by far the most popular option. Gate hinges are mounted to the rear of post. A gap of 15mm between edge of gap and post (each side) and a centre gap of 10mm for opening/ closing.

Reduce 40mm off your smallest measurement (from “Step 1”).

Centre Hung

Reduce 150mm off your smallest measurement (from “Step 1”). Hinges are mounted to the centre of the post. You can mount the driveway gate to be flush with front of the posts but there will be a gap between edge of gate and post of 70mm on each side.
