Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.
If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.
Make a note of the SMALLEST width.
** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.
Next, decide how the gate will hang and reduce width accordingly. The is by far the most popular option. Gate hinges are mounted to the rear of post. A gap of 15mm between edge of gap and post (each side) and a centre gap of 10mm for opening/ closing.
Reduce 40mm off your smallest measurement (from “Step 1”).
If ordering online and exact measurement not offered. Reduce to closest size. Want it exact? No problem, call our team to order – 0800 6124 965.

It was the first time I had ordered a gate so was a little nervous with what size gate to order so I called the sales team. All I had to do was provide the opening size and they did all the calculations from there and advise me what gate size to order. The emailed me over a quote and after I checked everything with the builder I called them back and ordered over the phone (to make things better, they was able to make to the size I needed which wasn’t available on the website).
They was quoting only a couple weeks for delivery and all arrived on time.
The builder had not used this company before but said he was very impressed with the quality of them.
Couldn’t fault the service I had received and will defiantly come back to G&F if I need another gate in the future.

Our fitter had used Gates and Fences before and had told us of the quality of their work. With fitters advice, we ordered a Berkshire gate with automation. Our fitter was correct! Beautiful gate with lovely hardwood. I love the different tones it has. Everyone has commented on them since having them complete. Very pleased with the whole experience.
