Dorchester Pine Estate Gate from

£1,059.00

Combining a deep metal frame with the finest selection of redwood pine timber to create a truly stunning and extremely durable gate style. Expertly crafted by hand to any size in the UK. First by our skilled fabricators then to our experienced joiners for infill. Our metal framed gate range is what we are most proud of. Attention to detail both for look and durability is paramount. Sturdy 40mm x 40mm premium frame work, smooth welded joints, solid 30mm x 15mm rear bracing bars and stainless steel screws to fix the timber into place.

  • Actual gate width for both sides added together.

    TO CALCULATE GATE WIDTH:

Take three horizontal measurements between existing posts or pillars.

Reduce lowest measurement by 40mm (1 1/2").  Find the closest size on the drop down list and select the next size lower.

    WIDTH*

Actual gate width for both sides added together. For example, if you selected a width from the drop down of 10ft (3m 048mm), you would receive 2 x gates at 5ft wide (1m 524mm).

    HEIGHT*

Taken to the highest point of the gate. We recommend leaving a gap of 25mm (1") clearance between the bottom edge of the gate and ground level.

    FINISH OPTIONS

Professionally finished. Please note. Colour may look slightly different on the gate due to screen settings. Knots on the timber and screws will be visible. We do offer free samples on request. To order your free sample, please contact us.

    POSTS

All posts are 8ft (2m 440mm) in length. Sold online in pairs. If you require single posts, please call to order.

ADDING AUTOMATION NOW OR IN THE FUTURE?

Extra support for the gate is needed if planning on automating your gates. This is due to the force of the automation to the gate. Standard rails (over time) will fail. Add either a solid middle rail if attaching automation arms to middle of the gate (also know as above ground automation), or bottom middle rail if using underground automation.

    AUTOMATION KITS

Supplied to us by BFT, one of the most reliable automation manufacturers out there. All kits come complete with a 2 year manufacturers guarantee.

Description

The Dorchester Pine Estate Gate. To help prevent the gate from twisting or warping, welded braces are placed throughout the rear of the gate to ensure the cladding is correctly fixed. As timber is a natural product, it is prone to move during the seasons – in fact, a single piece of cladding can swell or contract up to 1.5mm, therefore, unlike others, we predict this movement and all gates are produced with a (non see through) expansion gap allowing the gate to “breathe” without anyone noticing it. The gap is dependant on gate size, and is usually between 5mm and 15mm which runs along the frame, parallel to the cladding width. This ensures stability of the gate without compromising the look.

If your property already features a different kind of cladding which you would prefer to match, we can produce just the framework for you then clad the gate on site (please call for details).

Width of Gate: Taken as if both sides were touching each other. For example, a width the drop down menu of 10ft (3m 048mm) would be 2 x 5ft wide.

Height of Gate: Taken to the highest point of each gate. We recommend allowing a 50mm (2″) clearance between the bottom edge of gate and driveway (as long as the drive is level). If you require a more exact height, please contact us to order.

Gate Furniture (hinges etc): 4 x adjustable hinges, hinge pins, latch and drop bolts included with each gate. As standard, the position of the hinge will be 6″ (150mm) the bottom edge of gate and 6″ (150mm) top edge of gate. If you require these to be different (if for example you already have pins set into a post/ pillar), please call us.

How to Measure

Calculating gate width with existing pillars or posts in place.

Take THREE measurements between the pillars/ posts. Across the top, middle and bottom. Make a note of the SMALLEST measurement.

How to measure driveway gate width

To determine what clearance is needed to calculate gate width, you must decide how the gate will open. The first example is by far the most popular set up.

Gate Opening Example 1

FIGURE 1: (most popular set up)

Gates to open towards driveway. Hinge plates mounted to rear face of post/ pillar. Back edge of gate sits flush with the back edge of post/ pillar.

REDUCE 40mm (approx. 1.5″) from your lowest measurement.

Driveway Gate fitting example

FIGURE 2:

Gates to open towards driveway. Hinge plates mounted to inside face of post/ pillar. Front edge of gate sits flush with the front edge of post/ pillar.

REDUCE 150mm (6″) from your lowest measurement.

Driveway Gate fitting example opening outwards

FIGURE 3:

Gates to open outwards toward roadside. Hinge plates mounted to outside front face of post/ pillar. Front edge of gate sits flush with the front edge of post/ pillar. This is a good set up to do if your driveway space is limited. If your gate opens over a public footpath, please check with your local council if permission is required.

REDUCE 40mm (1.5″) from your lowest measurement.

Specification

Materials used in the construction of our wooden gates is a key part for their durability and outstanding natural beauty. Our softwood gates are produced using the finest, slow grown redwood pine from sustainable forests. Slow grown timber provides greater density levels (close to hardwood). Although more expensive it does produce a longer lasting product.

Rear Bracing: Most gates will be produced with a diagonal brace system. This is sometimes changed to an “A” brace design if needed due to size.

Why Choose Us?

We are UK’s largest bespoke gate manufacturer. All of our gates are expertly crafted by hand in the UK (not imported from abroad) using traditional, time served construction techniques. Great care and pride is taken to each and every one of our gates to ensure our customers gate is something they can be proud of.

What makes us different?

Compared to our competitors…a lot! Within manufacturing process. Deeper frames and thicker cladding to aid longevity of the gate. Traditional mortise, tenon and dowel jointed frames combined with the use of high grade, PVA adhesive to ensure frames are locked and secured in place. Hidden stainless steel screws to hold the cladding boards in position (not nailed in), and being hidden, increases kerb appeal. To help prevent the gate from moving and twisting, the frames are rebated to let the cladding expand and contract without effecting the gate structure. Finer details are applied such as smooth, routered edges and “V” groove joints to enhance the overall look of the gate. All of our gates can be purchased online to the nearest inch or call our team for an exact width measurement.

The process

So you’ve picked your gate, selected your sizes and ordered it online (or over the phone)…what happens next? Something we are quite proud of (and our customers love!). Once a customer has ordered and paid for their gate they go into our notification system. Customers are notified on every step during the gate production process via email and/ or text message. This includes when it’s in being cut, put together, QC (quality control), finish and delivery. Each of our production departments have scanners. Once they scan a product, the customer is notified of the update immediately.

Delivery

If you’ve ordered a smaller gate, a one man delivery service is used. For larger gates, a two man service is used. In any case, the customer does not need to help during delivery as we have it covered. You’ll be given a delivery date and time slot closer to the time. Feel free to call us and arrange alternative dates if needed.

The gate will arrive extremely well wrapped. ALL packaging used is fully recyclable so please dispose of this correctly.
