FIELD GATES

How to Measure

Measuring for your new gate is actually a very simple process.

If existing posts/ pillars are in place, take three horizontal measurements. Top, middle and bottom as shown below.

Make a note of the SMALLEST width.

** If you are replacing the posts, take a measurement of the whole opening width and reduce size by the width of the posts. For example: Opening width of 3m 460mm minus 2x posts (at 100mm wide each) = 3m 260mm.

Next, decide how the gate will hang and reduce width accordingly. The is by far the most popular option. Gate is hung between pillars/ posts.

Measure-Farm-or-Field-Gates-4 (1)

Reduce 130mm from lowest measurement (taken from "Step 1").

Mounted to "REAR" of pillars/ posts.

Measure-Farm-or-Field-Gates-2 (1)

No reduction to width between pillars/ posts required.

If ordering online and exact measurement not offered. Reduce to closest size. Want it exact? No problem, call our team to order - 0800 6124 965.

Measuring for Automated Gates:

For above ground automation, rear hung on the back of the posts take the smallest measurement and reduce by 50mm (this will give you the actual gate size to order). For above ground automation, hung in the centre of the posts take the smallest measurement and reduce by 150mm (this will give you the actual gate size to order). For below ground automation, rear hung on the back of the posts take the smallest measurement and plus 20mm (this will give you the actual gate size to order). For below ground automation, rear hung in the centre of the posts take the smallest measurement and reduce by 260mm (this will give you the actual gate size to order).

HARDWOOD FIELD GATES

The Beauty of Iroko

Iroko hardwood timber comes from the Milicia excelsa tree and is commonly known for it's warm and attractive appearance. Featuring a golden to dark brown color with interlocked grain patterns. As it ages, it tends to darken, developing a rich patina that adds to its aesthetic appeal.

With natural weather-resistant properties, which make it ideal for outdoor use. It can withstand exposure to different weather conditions, including rain, sun, and humidity, without significant deterioration. This makes it a preferred material for outdoor gates.

Overall, Iroko hardwood timber's beauty and benefits make it a popular choice for a variety of applications where strength, durability, and an appealing aesthetic are essential considerations.

Iroko is a strong and dense hardwood, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications. Its strength is comparable to teak, making it a reliable choice for construction and woodworking projects that require robust materials.

How to Measure

Calculating gate width with existing pillars or posts in place.

Take THREE measurements between the pillars/ posts. Across the top, middle and bottom. Make a note of the SMALLEST measurement.

Where to Measure Driveway Gate

There are different reductions to make depending on the farm/ field gate style and how you are going to mount the hinges (either on rear of post or internal face).

Measure Width of Farm or Field Gates

Figure 1: This set up is for a double leaf farm/ field gate. As the hinges are mounted to the rear of the post, the only reduction that is required is where the gate meets to open/ close. Gate opens inwards towards property.

Therefore, reduce lowest measurement by 10mm.

Measure Farm or Field Gates

Figure 2: This set up is for a single leaf farm/ field gate. As the hinges are mounted to the rear of the post you do not need to reduce any size from your lowest measurement. Gate opens inwards towards property.

How to measure field gate

Figure 3: This set up is for a double leaf farm/ field gate. The hinges are mounted to the inner face of the posts. This allows the gate to open both ways.

Reduce 270mm (approx. 11″) from your lowest measurement.

Measure Farm or Field Gates

Figure 4: This set up is for a single leaf farm/ field gate automated. The hinges are mounted to the inner face of the posts. This allows the gate to open both ways.

Reduce 130mm (approx. 5 1/5″) from your lowest measurement.
