THE SOMERSET DRIVEWAY GATE:

Manufactured by hand in the UK by skilled craftsmen using the finest materials to provide ultimate durability and quality. All of our gates come complete with a 10 year workmanship guarantee, adjustable hinges, latch, 2 x drop bolts. We use a 40mm x 40mm frame for the sides and the bottom, 40mm x 10mm flat top bar and 16mm round bars.

How to Measure: Take three measurements (top, middle and bottom) horizontally between the pillars. Reduce size by 50mm (2″) if mounting hinges to back of post/ pillar or 150mm (6″) if mounting hinges to inner face of posts/ pillars. See “How to Measure” for more information

Gate Furniture Included (hinges etc): 4 x adjustable hinges, hinge pins, latch and drop bolts included with each gate. As standard, the position of the hinge will be 6″ (150mm) from the bottom edge of gate and 6″ (150mm) from top edge of gate. If you require these to be different (if for example you already have pins set into a post/ pillar), please call us.

How to Measure

Calculating gate width with existing pillars or posts in place.

Take THREE measurements between the pillars/ posts. Across the top, middle and bottom. Make a note of the SMALLEST measurement.

How to calculate gap size on metal driveway gates

FIGURE 1:

Gates to open towards driveway. Hinge plates mounted to rear face of post/ pillar. Back edge of gate sits flush with the back edge of post/ pillar.

REDUCE 50mm (2″) from your lowest measurement.

Specification

The depth, thickness and quality of materials used in the construction of metal gates is a key factor on how the gate will look and perform. We only use the finest steel that’s thicker than industry standard. This ultimately produces a long lasting gate that really does “make an entrance”.

Size Guide

Width of Gate: Taken as if both sides were touching each other. For example, a width from the drop down menu of 10ft (3m 048mm) would be 2 x 5ft wide. If you are measuring a gap between existing posts/ pillars, we recommend reducing the opening size by 6″ (150mm) to allow for hinge/ pins and centre clearance.

Height of Gate: Taken to the highest point of each gate. We recommend allowing a 50mm (2″) clearance between the bottom edge of gate and driveway (as long as the drive is level). If you require a more exact height, please contact us to order.

All products are made on order. As such, delivery times can go up and down depending on order volume. We delivery across the whole of the UK (mainland only – please call if Isle of Wight etc).

Wooden Gates (inc Garage Doors): Monday 4th November to Friday 8th November. (Additional 5 - 10 working days if paint/ stain is added.)

Composite Gates: Monday 18th November to Friday 22nd November.

Metal and Metal Infill Gates: Monday 18th November to Friday 22nd November.

Metal Railings and Ballustrades: Monday 18th November to Friday 22nd November.

Accessories (automation kits, intercoms etc): 1 to 2 working days.

Hinge Mounting Options

Metal driveway gates are always fitted to pins mounted on metal posts, walls or timber. You simply lift the gate on to the pins to hang.

We offer three different options:

Option 1: (free with gate)

Included free with gate. Hinge pin plates with adjustable bolts. These can be attached to existing walls, timber posts or metal posts.

Please note: As we do not know what material these plates are being connected to, fixings are not included.

Option 2:

Purchase new metal posts from us with your gate. The posts will have the hinge pins welded to them. Due to the sheer weight of metal gates, these posts are designed to be fitted in the ground. As standard, the position of the hinge will be 6″ (150mm) from the bottom edge of gate and 6″ (150mm) from top edge of gate. The colour of your metal posts will match the colour you have chosen for the gate.

Option 3:

Your posts or pillars already have pins in place. We can manufacture your new gate so that it can drop directly on to existing gate pins. Please call our team to order (0800 6124 965). They will explain in detail what measurements we need to take.

Hanging Options

There are two ways that you can mount your metal driveway gates, inner face of the posts/pillars or on rear face of the posts/ pillars. Most people opt to have the gate hung using the inner face method (figure 1 below).

If adding underground automation, reduce the lowest measurement by 110mm.
