The Brentwood is our most popular style of Driveway Gate. It is an original design using traditional mortise and tenon joints to achieve a clean, classical look which is level across the top and has beautifully finished horns on either side of both gate panels. This Driveway Gate also includes long vertical panels of wood in the centre of which are tightly constructed using tongue-and-groove cladding for strength. All of our gates are built using the finest quality natural timber which expands and contracts very slightly with the seasons, so our hand-built construction methods allow for this to happen without compromising the beauty and strength of our Brentwood Line of Products.

Here we have a very stylish and elegant Driveway Gate featuring a swan bow across the top, slightly higher in the centre and tapering gracefully. The body is constructed using solid vertical cladding, with the added strength of hidden tongue and groove construction producing a Driveway Gate that is both attractive and secure. As with all our gates, there is fine attention to detail used throughout the construction of the Berkshire Driveway Gate, including mortise and tenon joinery and hand-drilled wooden dowels for added strength and durability. The Watergate modern driveway gate featuring 42mm 316 stainless steel polished tube inserts and long vertical panels of wood which are tightly constructed using tongue-and-groove cladding for strength. The lock blocks are fitted 900mm up from the bottom of the gate to he bottom of the lock blocks so handle is approximately fitted 1050mm.

As customers entrance widths differ, so do our gates. Some companies only offer there width in one foot increments. For most, this does not work. Online, we offer to the nearest inch. We recommend using our “how to measure” guide to calculate the width then select the first size lower. Alternatively, call our team and order to the exact millimeter.
All gates height are taken to the highest point. Depending on the design, this could be on the sides or centre (to the top of the horn).
No! Unlike others there is no additional charge for having your gate made to the nearest millimeter.
HOW TO MEASURE FOR DRIVEWAY GATES:
Calculating gate width with existing pillars or posts in place.
Take THREE measurements between the pillars/ posts. Across the top, middle and bottom. Make a note of the SMALLEST measurement.
To determine what clearance is needed to calculate gate width, you must decide how the gate will open. The first example is by far the most popular set up.

REDUCE 40mm (approx. 1.5″) from your lowest measurement.

Our selection of wooden driveway gates advertised on this page are constructed from the finest, slow grown Redwood Pine. We have selected this material for the production of our gates due to the durability and strength a slow grown pine has over the usual faster growing pine offered elsewhere. In fact the density level of this timber is not far off that of hardwood.
Our wooden driveway gates are manufactured by us in the UK. Unlike others, our frames are constructed using mortise, tenon and dowel joints giving them ultimate protection and strength. All cladding is fitted using hidden, stainless steel screws. This enhances the look of the gate (we’ve all seen gates with screws all over!) and keeps the boards secured. Combine the above with thicker frames and deeper cladding to produce a gate that really does “make an entrance”.
Some of our customers prefer the character look of softwood driveway gates and like knots being visible. This look is enhanced by applying a stain to the driveway gate. Softwood gates can be painted and putting knot primer on the gates first will reduce the knot appearance. Cost wise, using softwood as the material on your driveway gate is a lot cheaper than using hardwood. Average cost of a softwood driveway gate to a hardwood driveway gate is around 60% less.
Really this is down to the owner. With annual maintenance and care, a wooden driveway gate made using softwood timber will easily last 10+ years. The gate needs to have either a stain or paint prior to being outdoors. We recommend re-applying a finish within the first 6 months then again at least once a year.
